There’s nothing like backpacking around South Africa’s incredible Wild Coast. There’s just no comparing this magical, rural place to anywhere else. So instead of using a whole lot of words, here are some photos.

And also the best playground for any kid

Deserted beach on deserted beach

Early morning cliffside wanderings

The perfect way to start a day

Beautiful mornings

The most relaxed cats in the world

Silly dances and Xhosa huts

Learn to surf

How to spell ablution

How to spend a day at the beach

Volleyball at Mdumbi Backpackers

The ultimate picture of the Wild Coast

Grass and beach and trees

Looking away from the wall's hole

Coffee Bay river mouth

High on a hill there's a lonely goat herd

The view you get from pretty much any random hill

We were lucky enough to spend our childhood in Transkei, and have seen & travelled the coast from Port St. Johns to Kei Mouth. Great memories & experiences! From 1954 to 2012!

Hi Louise.
Picture three is the beach at Mdumbi backpackers and picture eight is the river mouth just at Bulungula. Keep an eye on the blog, the second Wild Coast story will have contact details and more information about all these places where I stayed. Both of them are truly incredible!
