You know those signs in national parks that say, ‘Stay in your vehicle?’ Well, they’re there for a reason.
This guy, in the bush on official documentary business it seems, decided to hop out for a better angle of a pride of lions. I’m sure what happened next made him strongly reconsider that decision as well as strongly reconsider heading straight back to camp to change his broeks.
Did you see him eek out that wry little half-smile/grimace at the end there? That’s because he just felt something squishy run down his pants leg.

Exactly what I was writing about in this blog post – http://photography.wild-eye.co.za/ethics-in-wildlife-photography/
Sad that so many photographers and ‘guides’ are doing this the last while. Creates the wrong perception about our industry.

What a twit! I hate the programs on National Geographic where these so called extreme adventurers try to get as close as possible to take photos and you can see that animals are stressed out beyond belief!
There is a boundary that we should respect, otherwise we are just paparazzi – animals nor not. Anything for that ultimate shot. It sickens me to death.

Which programs specifically are you referring to?

I agree, this is the type of idiot that ends up coming to use for hospitalisation if he survives the attack. How can you be empathetic??

Not Clever! Why put a pride under threat of culling because the camera man wants to prove what a man he is!
A real poor role model for green tourism!

A**holes like this need to be made to walk unarmed for 10+km’s through the bush, to realise just how feeble we are in comparison. It works. Never enter the reaction zone, so the animals survival is not placed in jeopardy.

Before you all condemn the poor guy – take a look at an interview with the cameraman to add some much needed context to the situation – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_-9t5lXXSU
